Summary:

After serving out a year of hard labor in the salt mines of Endovier for her crimes, 18-year-old assassin Celaena Sardothien is dragged before the Crown Prince. Prince Dorian offers her her freedom on one condition: she must act as his champion in a competition to find a new royal assassin.

Her opponents are men-thieves and assassins and warriors from across the empire, each sponsored by a member of the king's council. If she beats her opponents in a series of eliminations, she'll serve the kingdom for four years and then be granted her freedom. Celaena finds her training sessions with the captain of the guard, Westfall, challenging and exhilarating. But she's bored stiff by court life. Things get a little more interesting when the prince starts to show interest in her ... but it's the gruff Captain Westfall who seems to understand her best.

Then one of the other contestants turns up dead ... quickly followed by another. Can Celaena figure out who the killer is before she becomes a victim? As the young assassin investigates, her search leads her to discover a greater destiny than she could possibly have imagined.

My Thoughts

I freaking loved this book!! It was amazing and the hype around it was definitely not disappointing.  I really enjoyed the premise of the book, the assassins, the kings, queens, princes, princesses, etc.  The most kick ass assassin of them all, Celaena, girl you are the freaking bomb!!

When Calaena gets picked by the prince to be represented in a contest to become the King's Champion, it is the best thing that could happen to her.  Because she was imprisoned in the salt mines and beat where she would eventually die.  So when she gets picked to compete in a contest, she got to leave the salt mines and move into the castle in Endovier.

Calaena is kinda in a love triangle between her guard Captian Westfall and Prince Dorian.  I am personally rooting for Prince Dorian, I think deep down he is a really nice guy and he really truly cares for Calaena.  Captian Westfall doesn't really come out and say he likes Calaena, but through his actions you can tell he kinda cares about her.

Throught the course of the contest, there was different tasks they had to complete and the losers had to go home.  But throughout the contest, some of the contestants would be found shredded to pieces, body parts and organs would be missing and there would be symbols written on and around the bodies.  Calaena read and studied lots of books to figure out what the symbols meant.  She was really scared it would happen to her, so she tried to figure out who was doing these awful things to these people.

When the final competition came around, let me tell you I was soooo mad at what happened.  But I don't want to spoil it for you, so goooo read this book immediately.  It was amazing and I can not wait to read the next book in the series!!!
