Published October 20th 2015 by Knopf Books for Young Readers
Genres:  Young Adult, Science Fiction

Summary:

This morning, Kady thought breaking up with Ezra was the hardest thing she’d have to do.

This afternoon, her planet was invaded.

The year is 2575, and two rival megacorporations are at war over a planet that’s little more than an ice-covered speck at the edge of the universe. Too bad nobody thought to warn the people living on it. With enemy fire raining down on them, Kady and Ezra—who are barely even talking to each other—are forced to fight their way onto an evacuating fleet, with an enemy warship in hot pursuit.

But their problems are just getting started. A deadly plague has broken out and is mutating, with terrifying results; the fleet's AI, which should be protecting them, may actually be their enemy; and nobody in charge will say what’s really going on. As Kady hacks into a tangled web of data to find the truth, it's clear only one person can help her bring it all to light: the ex-boyfriend she swore she'd never speak to again.

My Thoughts

This story starts off with an invasion on a colony and everyone must aboard a spaceship for safety.  Not everyone makes it on the spaceships.  This book follows two main characters, Kady and Ezra. They recently broke up with each other before the invasion and they end up on different ships, the Alexandra and Hypatia.  Ezra tries to get in contact with Kady to make sure she is ok and Kady doesn't want anything to do with Erza at first.  Then she realizes she misses him.

While on the ship Kady hacks into numerous different files to see what is going on and why there was an invasion.  She finds out BiTech is the one that invades their planet.  She also finds out alot more than she really bargained for.  Months have passed and Kady finally emails Ezra back to see how he is doing.

The other ship Copernicus is infected with a pathogen, which makes you turn into a smart zombie type thing.  It was really strange and really interesting.  Aiden, Alexandra's AI destroys Copernicus to get rid of the virus, so that really put a bad taste in my mouth for Aiden.  Why would he do such a thing, because there were still healthy people on that ship!

Kady tries to take down Aiden and in the process gets herself involved in ways she probably didn't want to be in.

This book was alot of fun!  It definitely was way different than any book I have ever read.  The book is told through all kinds of different documents, such as emails, IMs, interviews, military files, medical reports, surveillance reports, and schematics.  I think reading in these different formats definitely made the book more interesting and intriguing.

I loved Kady as a main character and how she realizes how much she loves and misses Ezra.  Kady is very strong and heroic.  At first I hated Aiden but at the end I think I began to actually like him.   The action in this book was great and heart wrenching.  I could not put this book down.  Even though it was 600 pages it definitely didn't seem like it.

There was one thing that was never revealed, which was why did BiTech invade their planet in the first place.  I would of loved to know what happened and more of the history of BiTech.  Other than that, this book was awesome!

I definitely recommend this book and I can't wait to read the next book in the series!
